Community Work

Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas (VLS) Partnership

Who: Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas (VLS), a nonprofit dedicated to providing free legal assistance to low-income individuals through licensed attorney volunteers. The Mendez Law Group proudly partners with VLS to extend family law support to our community.

What: Free, 30-minute, walk-in family law consultations that include (but not limited to):

  • Case reviews

  • Documentation assistance

  • Resource referrals

  • Assessment for potential representation through VLS attorneys

When: Every other Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM (please check for schedule changes).

Where: Various Austin Public Library locations. Current team schedules and offerings:

  • Richard York | Starting 9/10/25: Rotating between Austin Public Library’s Ruiz Branch and St. John Branch.

Will occasionally take on pro-bono/start-to-finish cases that are novel legal matters and extend beyond the clinic hours.

Why: Because access to justice should not depend on income. By donating our time and expertise, we help families navigate challenging legal matters, ensuring they feel supported, informed, and empowered.

How: Clients can walk into the clinic during scheduled hours or apply online through VLS. Spanish-speaking interpreters are available, and consultations are conducted in a welcoming, accessible environment. Our attorneys volunteer to review cases, provide legal guidance, and connect individuals with additional resources.

If you or someone you know needs family law assistance, stop by! Let’s build a stronger, more supported community together!!
